Think apps have ruined dating in real life? They’re about to have a go at dating in The Sims 4 too, thanks to the upcoming Lovestruck expansion.

Dating is already a big part of The Sims 4, but Lovestruck brings it into the apocalyptic present with a virtual app called Cupid’s Corner.

You make a profile, tag whether you are into men or women (or both), and can also specify your age group. Prefer “young adult” or “elderly”? No problem.

Cupid’s Corner offers the classic swipe and like dating app interface, and rifling through profiles offers the same limited information required when you set up your own profile.

This is pretty thin stuff, but there was already interest in this area among The Sims 4 fans. A modder called Lumpinou has released a Meet&Mingle dating mod, and runs a popular pattern off the back of their The Sims 4 modding efforts. The rival SimDa dating app mod has attracted millions of downloads.

The Sims 4 Lovestruck release date

The Sims 4’s app-based dating goes official on July 25, when the Lovestruck expansion is due for release.

This date will also make a significant change to the base game, whether or not you purchase Lovestruck. Polyamory will be a part of The Sims 4’s base game, through the Romantic Boundaries system.

“You can now define how your Sims approach romantic relationships in terms of physical and emotional romantic exclusivity. This allows for Sims to date multiple Sims without impact to other relationships,” says EA.

Those who buy the Lovestruck expansion by September 5 will get a few bonus in-game items: Cry Me a River Eyeliner, a Herbert Heart Plushie and a Basic Breakup Double Bed.

The Sims 4 Lovestruck is the game’s 16th major expansion since the original launch a decade ago. These are joined by Game Packs, Stuff Packs and other bits of DLC. There are currently 80 pieces of DLC listed on the PC game platform Steam.

Were you to buy the lot, you’d have to spend upwards of £1089, although at the time of writing many of the key expansions are on sale.

The Sims 4 went free-to-play in 2022, letting anyone try it out for free on PC or console. The game’s latest Lovestruck expansion will release on PC, Mac and both current and last-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
