“Girls ”Stars Allison Williams and Ebon Moss-Bachrach Reveal They Sang Jack Antonoff's 'Discards' for Kelly Clarkson

The Grammy-winning producer also dated series creator Lena Dunham during the six-season run of 'Girls'

Allison Williams and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are spilling never-before-seen secrets about HBO's hit series, Girls.

The former costars played Marnie and Desi respectively in the Lena Dunham-led series, and their characters' toxic on-again-off-again relationship was bonded by music. Throughout the show's six season run, the duo performed a variety of songs, some of which they now reveal were actually written by Grammy-winning producer and Dunham's ex-boyfriend, Jack Antonoff.

"I found out the other day that most of our songs were discards from Kelly Clarkson," Moss-Bachrach said in a joint Vanity Fair interview with Williams, who added, "Some of them were. I think the song 'Breathless' was written by Jack Antonoff for Kelly Clarkson."

"I like that song," he admitted to which the Fellow Travelers alum agreed, "It's a great song, she should've done it! But we got it, as a result."

Though nearly seven years have passed in the series' finale, Williams' portrayal of Marnie and her vocal stylings have lived on in internet history. In February, Dunham reacted to how Williams' musical moments have led to cringe-worthy moments and long-lasting memes.

“I love that Allison would constantly say when we were shooting Girls, ‘Oh my God, are you really going to make me sing this? This is so embarrassing,'" she recalled to Variety. "And I’d be like, ‘It’s not going to be a big deal.’”

She continued, “And then those are the things that become memes for the next 20 years. So I’m sorry, Allison.”

Girls ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017. Since then, Williams has become a horror mainstay thanks to Get Out, M3gan and The Perfection. Dunham has helmed films including Catherine Called Birdy and Sharp Stick. She will soon make her return to TV with the forthcoming Netflix rom-com series Too Much, which she is set to write and direct, starring Megan Stalter and The White Lotus's Will Sharpe.
