KUALA LUMPUR, August 21 — Some 1,500 concertgoers swayed to the groover of British singer-songwriter Bruno Major at Zepp KL last night.

The 35-year-old who had only just landed in KL with his band a few hours earlier, serenaded fans who queued as early as 3pm.

The R&B and jazz-influenced singer and his band were in town for his Tour of Planet Earth with KL as their last stop for South-east Asia, after selling out shows in Singapore and Indonesia just days before.

Starting the show at around 8.30pm, Major took to the stage as he opened with the first track from his latest album Columbo titled The Show Must Go On.

After served melodious guitar solos and harmonious tunes, audiences went into sing-a-long mode as Major pulled out a slews of his hits such as Regents Park and The Most Beautiful Thing.

Major performed around 18 songs in his almost two-hour set last night which ended around 10.30pm.

The whole venue lit up as audiences pulled out their flashlights from their phones as Major performed another one of his hit songs Nothing.

It was rather a personal show for both the audience and Major with the artist casually interacting with fans, sharing stories about his lyrics to the impromptu birthday song for one of the lucky fans.

Major also didn’t go home empty-handed as some fans took the chance to share their gifts with the singer in the form of bracelets, notebooks as well as flowers.

This is Major’s second time in Malaysia after his last show here back in 2018.

Talking to local media before his show, Major shared that he was excited to be back in Asia and was pumped to finally be able to perform songs from his third album and especially his second album which was released during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

A fully independent artist since his first album A Song for Every Moon from 2017, Major shared the ups and downs of going on tour independently.

This includes not being able to afford tour buses, lighting, stylists as well as rooms for his band members in the beginning.

“I think like anything else, if you want total control over your own trajectory in life, you have to be willing to work a little bit harder, you also have to be willing to relinquish certain luxuries, especially in the early stages.

“But the best thing about it is, if you do that and you do put in the work and you do put in the time, you’re going to end up with all the things that you want and have it totally under your own control, under your own team and your own design

“And everything you achieve will feel a little bit more special because you found it without any help from any labels and their big budget,” Major said.

He said he was grateful to be able to tour comfortably now as the situation ‘wasn’t always like this’ before.

Major will be touring North America for his next leg of Tour of Planet Earth 2023 which will kick start this September 4.
