Samuel Haskell IV ordered held without bail for murder charges

Samuel Haskell IV, the son of Hollywood executive Samuel Haskell III, was ordered held without bail for his murder charges in his court appearance Friday.

Catch up: Haskell, 35, is accused of killing his wife, Mei Li Haskell, 37, and her parents, Gaoshan Li, 72, and Yanxiang Wang, 64. He was taken into custody after police found evidence of dismemberment in his home in Tarzana, Los Angeles, on Nov. 8.

The day before, Haskell hired laborers to dispose black trash bags that allegedly contained body parts. The workers reported the discovery and returned the bags to his home, but they were gone by the time police arrived.

Haskell on the same day was allegedly photographed putting a trash bag into a dumpster near Ventura Boulevard and Rubio Avenue in Encino. A transient man who went through the site the next day then discovered a torso, leading to his arrest.

No bail: Haskell, who is facing three counts of murder — and was previously held for $2 million — showed up shirtless with an anti-suicide smock in his court appearance Friday. He was ordered held without bail.

His new attorney, Joseph Weimoritz, did not enter a plea and requested a continuance of the hearing. Haskell will return to court on Jan. 12, 2024.

About the victims: Mei Li and her parents were last seen on Nov. 6. The in-laws reportedly emigrated from China to help take care of the couple's three children, who are now in custody of the local Department of Children and Family Services.
