Perak police raid two labs in Manjung, seize drugs worth RM5.5m

IPOH, April 4 — Perak police crippled an ecstasy pill processing and distributing syndicate, seizing drugs worth more than RM5 million after locating two laboratories used to manufacture the illicit substance in Manjung district.

State Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said a local man and three Vietnamese women were arrested in the raid conducted at two houses, which were used to process the drugs, in Pantai Remis on Saturday.

“In the first location where the four suspects were arrested at about 7am, police have seized 245 ecstasy pills weighing about 100 grammes and 1,227 grammes of ecstasy in powdered form.

“Following the arrest, police have raided another house on the same day at around 3pm in Panchor and seized 11,838 ecstasy pills weighing 5,592 grammes 38,326 grammes of ecstasy powder and 31,311 grammes of liquid ecstasy,” he told a press conference at the Perak police headquarters here.

Mohd Yusri also said that policed have also seized dried leaves believed to be ganja weighing about 2,056 grammes, 844 grammes of crystal methamphetamine and 162 grammes of heroin at the second house.

“The total worth of the drugs seized at both locations is RM5,525,023.20.

“Police also confiscated chemical substances and equipment believed to be used to process and package drugs, three cars and jewellery. The estimated total value of the seized properties were about RM763,693.00,” he added.

Mohd Yusri said the four suspects aged between 32 and 39 were tested positive for amphetamine and will be remanded for seven days until April 8.

“The male suspect has nine previous crime records,” he said.

He said that syndicate is believed to have been active since 2022.

“The drugs are believed to be for distribution within the state, which could be used by 258,214 drug users,” he said.

The case is being investigations under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
