Patrick Mahomes had 5 TDs vs. Cardinals, will be just fine without Tyreek Hill

It wasn't like anyone who has been paying attention gave up on Patrick Mahomes just because Tyreek Hill was traded in the offseason. But there was a little more doubt than there should have been.

The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback is going to be fine without Hill. He'll just turn the next batch of receivers into stars.

Mahomes had a fantastic game and the Chiefs made a statement by obliterating the Arizona Cardinals 44-21 in the season opener. Mahomes had 360 yards and five touchdowns in the win.

Mahomes started hot. He threw touchdowns on each of the Chiefs' first three possessions. The first went to Travis Kelce. The next two went to running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, one of which was on a shovel pass near the goal line. Mahomes added a fourth touchdown to tight end Jody Fortson on Kansas City's first drive of the second half. That gave Kansas City a 30-7 lead. A fifth TD went to Mecole Hardman.

Mahomes had 334 yards and five touchdowns with 3:56 left in the third quarter.

In the first half, Mahomes went 21-of-28 for 223 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. That's a great full game for a lot of quarterbacks.

In case we needed a reminder of Mahomes' place in history, even at his young age, Sunday provided another example.

Mahomes won't miss Hill that much. There will be a game or two in which he could have used Hill's ability to blow past a defense and score, but which quarterback couldn't use a player like Hill? Mahomes will have another great season. It really doesn't matter who is playing alongside him.
