JOHOR BARU, July 27 — Police have initiated investigations following a case involving an irresponsible individual who was alleged to have misused the name of Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s wife to promote air conditioners on Facebook recently.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the report regarding the Facebook account impersonating Che' Puan Besar Khaleeda Bustamam was lodged by a 40-year-old man at the Johor Baru South district police headquarters at 3.19pm yesterday.

“In his report, the complainant found that a Facebook account under the name of Che' Puan Besar Khaleeda was a fake account.

“In addition, there is information in an uploaded post that depicts Che' Puan Besar Khaleeda promoting Japanese air conditioners for sale,” he said in a statement here today.

Tunku Ismail, popularly known as TMJ (initials for Tunku Mahkota Johor), has been married to Che' Puan Besar Khaleeda since 2014 and the couple have four children.

The 30-year-old consort has been active in voicing her concerns on child abuse and also promoting women empowerment in Johor.

Kamarul Zaman said the case is being investigated under Section 419 of the Penal Code for cheating by impersonation.

He cautioned the public that it was against the law to misuse such social media for personal gain.

“In such matters, police will not hesitate to take action in accordance with the provisions of the existing law," he said.
