KUALA LUMPUR, February 17 — A remake of 1970’s buddy cop action series Starsky & Hutch is currently in the works at Fox Entertainment.

Approved via its script-to-series model, it will feature two female leads, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

The modern remake will revolve around two detectives, Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson as they solve crimes in the offbeat town of Desert City, while staying true to their friendship and awesomeness.

The duo will also be investigating the mystery behind the imprisonment of their fathers 15 years ago for a crime they didn’t commit.

Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn unveiled that the show will be helmed by showrunners and writers Sam Sklaver who has worked on the 2019’s Prodigal Son series and Elizabeth Peterson, who’s worked on the American medical drama series, The Resident.

Both of the writers are also expected to have at least two scripts prepared for the remake before proceeding.

The remake will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment.

The original Starsky and Hutch series was created by William Blinn and produced by Spelling-Goldberg Productions and was aired on ABC from 1975 to 1979.

The show is centred on two detectives — the streetwise David Michael Starsky, played by Paul Michael Glaser and the by-the-book Kenneth Richard ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson, played by David Soul, as they go about their business in the fictional Bay City, California.

The series was also turned into a feature film in 2004 which starred Ben Stiller as Starsky, Owen Wilson as Hutch along with rapper Snoop Dog, going into the role of the two detective’s informant, Huggy Bear which was played by Antonio Fargas in the series.
