Eva Longoria and George Lopez to Headline ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’ at Disney+
Eva Longoria and George Lopez are set to star in the Latino-centric “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” a new Disney+ adaptation of Judith Viorst’s bestselling children’s book, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Marvin Lemus, the co-creator and showrunner of “Gentefied,” is set to direct the project. “Father of the Bride’s” Matt Lopez wrote the script. Production on the Disney+ project is eyeing a spring start date in New Mexico.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news, the film “follows a Mexican-American family who have recently lost their connection to each other and their roots, as they embark on an epic road trip that immediately goes hilariously wrong.”
“Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” is being produced by Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and The Jim Henson Company. Emily Morris is the executive producer. Blanca Lista is overseeing the project for The Jim Henson Company.
Longoria will play Alexander’s mother, a travel writer who has lost her passion for work. Lopez is playing a tough biker and the family’s grandfather.
Disney previously adapted “Alexander” as a 2015 big-screen movie starring Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner as the parents. The film grossed $67 million domestically on a $28 million production budget.
Longoria recently wrapped “Flamin’ Hot,” which is scheduled to be released by Searchlight in 2023.
Lopez will next be seen in DC Films and Warner Bros.’ “Blue Beetle,” which is currently in postproduction.
