Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Malaysia: A 7-seater Proton X90 rival with 256hp, 9 airbags and priced at RM159,800

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Two months after officially announcing its return to our market during the Malaysia Autoshow 2023, Chery is finally ready to roll out a new generation of vehicles to Malaysian consumers. To mark the company’s new era in Malaysia, Chery is launching two SUVs which include the 7-seater Tiggo 8 Pro as well as the slightly smaller Omoda 5.

Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Malaysia pricing, colour options, warranty

For our market, the Tiggo 8 Pro is available in just one variant with an on-the-road price of RM159,800 not inclusive of insurance. Unlike the Omoda 5 which comes with several colourways, Tiggo 8 Pro is offered in either Dark Black or Khaki White while it also comes standard with 19-inch wheels.

When it comes to warranty, the SUV comes with a 7-year warranty as well as 5 years of free service. Chery will also include a 10-year / 1,000,0000 km engine warranty for the first 3,000 customers as an early bird promo.

Engine, performance, fuel consumption

Similar to the version in China, the Tiggo 8 Pro for the Malaysian market continues to be powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, it produces 256hp and 390Nm of torque to the front wheels.

It also comes with 3 driving modes – Eco, Normal and Sport. Chery claims that the Tiggo 8 Pro has a fuel economy of 7.4 litres per 100km.

Emphasis on ridership experience and comfort

Alongside its signature seven-seater setup, the SUV is equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control with independent aircon for the third row. It also features a panoramic sunroof that can be controlled electronically.

Chery has also fitted a 24.6-inch curved dual screen into the Tiggo 8 Pro with one portion meant for the infotainment system while another half acts as the SUV’s digital instrument cluster. Together with the support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the audio experience inside the SUV is delivered by eight Sony speakers.

For greater comfort and convenience, it also gets an illuminated welcome light, multi-colour ambient light, ventilated and heated seats for the front occupants, a memory seat for the driver and a hands-free power tailgate.

Packed with safety features

The Tiggo 8 Pro is accompanied by a long list of safety features, apt for an SUV that is being released in 2023. Right off the bat, there are nine airbags throughout the vehicle and it has also been fitted with a “540-degree” camera system that includes of underfloor camera.

As you may expect, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is a standard on Tiggo 8 Pro together with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Override System (BOS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and Traction Control System (TCS). There are also Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and Hill Descent Control (HDC) to help drivers navigate hilly areas.

The Tiggo 8 Pro also gets a fully decked Advanced Driver Assistance Systems suite that includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping System (LKS), and Traffic Jam Assist (TJA). The suite also provides the SUV with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Front Collision Warning (FCW) with vehicle identification capability. — SoyaCincau
