Brooke Shields Calls Injectables a Slippery Slope: 'I'm Scared of Not Looking Like Myself'

Shields, who is one of Glamour's Women of the Year cover stars for 2023, got candid about her stance on cosmetic procedures

Brooke Shields always keeps it real.

In her new cover story for Glamour’s  2023 Women of the Year issue, the actress, model, author and entrepreneur shared her take on cosmetic procedures, explaining that she's “all for any of it if it truly is done for yourself, for the right reasons, and gives you a level of some kind of confidence that you need."

But the Blue Lagoon star, 58, later explained that she's also experienced the negative side of some injectables.

“I think it’s easy to go down the slope of overdoing it. I’m scared of not looking like myself; the times that I’ve had Botox, I end up with this Spock eye.”

“I don’t want to chase youth. I want to chase now," she added.

While she doesn't plan on making any drastic changes to her appearance, she’s open to trying the “newest thing” in the beauty space, whether that be a facial peel or undergoing Fraxel laser treatment.

An advocate for embracing women of all stages in their lives, Shields opened up about her uplifting perspective on aging.

“You look at the women who are over 40 — their history, their vibrance, their intelligence, their responsibility, their adaptability. They’ve raised families; they’ve run companies; they’ve been in multiple different types of relationships; they kept moving forward. We were the Amazons!”

And indeed Shields has done it all. Not only did she kickstart her journey as an entrepreneur in her 50s by launching her uplifting platform, Beginning is Now — which she told PEOPLE was her way of empowering women over 40 — but she's also a mom to her daughters Grier, 17, and Rowan, 20, who she shares with husband Chris Henchy.

Shields has previously opened up about motherhood with two young adults, candidly speaking on her teen's interest in modeling, sending off her eldest to college and the number of times each have shopped through her closet, which is filled with designer archives.

"Well, now it makes me feel great because it wasn’t my idea," she told Glamour of how she feels seeing her mini-mes wearing her clothes.

She continued: "If I had tried to tell them what to wear, they would’ve gotten so mad at me and been like, 'Mom, that’s weird.' But they both went down unbeknownst to me, to the cedar closet where all the archive stuff is, and their bodies now were what my body used to be, and they fit them like a glove. I never dreamt they would want to wear my clothes. I just thought they would think I’m old-fashioned and I’m not cool."
