Anwar arrives in Kuching for first official visit since becoming PM

KUCHING, Jan 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived here this afternoon for his first official visit to Sarawak since assuming the post following the 15th general election last year.

On hand to receive him at the Kuching International Airport were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, Deputy Premier Datuk Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian and federal Works Minister Datuk Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Later tonight, he will attend a state banquet hosted in his honour at the Borneo Convention Centre.

According to an advisory note issued by the state Information Department to the local media, Anwar will chair the high-level Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) implementation action committee meeting at the state legislative assembly complex in Petra Jaya tomorrow morning.

Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor will lead their respective delegations to the meeting.

After chairing the meeting, Anwar will perform his Friday prayers at Masjid Jamek in Petra Jaya.

At 2pm, he will attend a public feast at Kubah Ria before departing back to Putrajaya.
