Young Sheldon: 9 Prequel Characters Never Seen (or Mentioned) on Big Bang

Pint-sized versions of the Big Bang Theory gang have appeared on Young Sheldon. But just how many Young Sheldon characters were never seen (let alone referenced) on Big Bang?

Ahead of the spinoff’s strike-delayed Season 7, TVLine is taking stock of the most important prequel series characters to go unmentioned by the future Dr. Cooper — including an invaluable mentor, a fellow child prodigy, a potential in-law and a precious niblingo.

The fellow child prodigy was Sheldon’s chief revival at East Texas Tech. Aside from Tam, who did appear on Big Bang, she was the closest thing Sheldon had to a friend. She remained an acquaintance for many years, eventually befriending Sheldon’s twin sister Missy.

DR. JOHN STURGIS

Dr. Sturgis played an instrumental role in Sheldon’s coming of age. It was his course on quantum chromodynamics that originally brought Shelly to East Texas Tech as a visiting scholar.

At one point, the physics professor was romantically involved with Meemaw. He was also responsible for Shelly’s summer abroad in Germany. The fact that he’s never mentioned on Big Bang is, dare we say… inconceivable!

DR. GRANT LINKLETTER

Dr. Linkletter never cared for Sheldon, who was oblivious to the professor’s true feelings. He repeatedly went to Linkletter for advice, and looked to him as something of a mentor throughout his undergraduate studies.

DALE BALLARD

Meemaw’s on-again/off-again boyfriend employed both Sr. and Georgie at his sporting goods store. He also served as Missy’s little league coach. He never spent much time with Shelly, but he was still present for much of his upbringing.

PASTOR JEFF

Jeff was Mary’s boss, Sheldon and Missy’s Sunday school instructor, the Coopers’ next-door neighbor and a thorn in Meemaw and Georgie’s side. But the future Dr. Cooper’s disdain for organized religion would explain why he’d never single out the clergyman in stories about his Baptist upbringing.

PASTOR ROB

The youth pastor was another Sunday school fixture. He also made his way into one of Mary’s sacrilegious fantasies. But the prequel has never made clear if Shelly was aware of Rob’s friendship with his mom.

BRENDA SPARKS

Brenda’s son Billy was established as Sheldon’s childhood bully in Season 3 of the mothership — a full seven years before he made his on-screen debut in Young Sheldon‘s 2017 pilot. Brenda was also introduced during Season 1 of the spinoff, and eventually got close — some would say too close — to Sheldon’s dad George.

MANDY MCALLISTER

Odds are Georgie’s baby mama winds up Shelly’s sister-in-law — at least for a little while. Young Sheldon previously established that 18-year-old Georgie marries when he’s 19, and Big Bang revealed that Georgie marries twice by 2019.

CONNIE ‘CEECEE’ COOPER

OK, pivotal might be a stretch. But look how adorable she is! Sheldon’s niblingo never came up in conversations on Big Bang — not during any of Shelly’s visits home, or during Mary, Missy and Georgie’s trips to Pasadena.
