Tesla CFO Kirkhorn steps down, replaced by chief accounting officer Vaibhav Taneja

Kirkhorn stepped down after a 13-year run at Tesla.

Tesla (TSLA) revealed in a filing Monday morning that Chief Financial Officer Zachary Kirkhorn has stepped down from the company as of August 4. Kirkhorn served as CFO for the past four years and has been with the company for 13 years.

Kirkhorn’s replacement will be Vaibhav Taneja, who is currently the chief accounting officer and will remain in that position. Tesla said Taneja has served in various financial roles at Tesla over the past five years. Prior to joining Tesla, he was an executive at SolarCity, which Tesla acquired in 2016.

Tesla also disclosed that Kirkhorn will continue to serve the company “through the end of the year” to help support the transition. Neither Kirkhorn nor Tesla have said where Kirkhorn is headed following his departure from Tesla.

“During his tenure, Tesla has seen tremendous expansion and growth. Tesla thanks Mr. Kirkhorn for his significant contributions,” Tesla said in a statement.

Tesla stock was lower in early Monday morning trading.

In post on networking site Linkedin on Monday, Kirkhorn wrote in part, "[b]eing a part of this company is a special experience and I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve done together since I joined over 13 years ago. As I shift my responsibilities to support this transition, I want to thank the talented, passionate, and hard-working employees at Tesla... I also want to thank [Tesla CEO] Elon [Musk] for his leadership and optimism, which has inspired so many people."
