Sonay Kartal sealed her place in the last eight of the LTA’s Lexus Ilkley Trophy with a 7-5 6-1 victory over Elsa Jacquemot.

Kartal breezed past fourth seed Simona Waltert 6-1 6-0 to set up a tie with Jacquemot, who is ranked over 100 places higher than the British player, and the 21-year-old continued her excellent week with another convincing victory.

Charles Broom had to wait for his match against Raul Brancaccio, but made up for lost time by swiftly dispatching the Italian 6-1 6-4 early on Wednesday to seal his place in the quarter-finals.

Broom defied the almost 300 places between the pair in the rankings to brush aside his opponent to continue a superb week in Yorkshire after previously defeating world No. 152 Gijs Brouwer.

It was also defeat for Anna Brogan, who lost 7-5 3-6 6-1 in her rain-delayed contest against American qualifier Katrina Scott.

In the doubles, Lacy teamed up with fellow teenager Mimi Xu as the pair lost 6-2 6-3 to Maja Chwalinska and Jesika Maleckova, while Lauryn John-Baptiste and Lily Yuriko Miyazaki lost 6-3 6-0 to Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov and Mirjam Bjorklund.

And it was also defeat for Emily Webley-Smith alongside German partner Tamara Korpatsch, as they were beaten 6-0 6-4 by Nao Hibino and Natalija Stevanovic.

Johannus Monday and Jacob Fearnley took the first set against Gijs Brouwer and Jesper de Jong but were eventually beaten 3-6 7-5 10-4, while Toby Samuel and Connor Thomson also exited in the last 16, losing 6-3 7-6(4) to Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens.

Elsewhere, top women’s singles seed Emma Navarro safely navigated her way into the last 16, beating Katherine Sebov 6-4 6-3 however eighth seed Korpatsch fell to Indian qualifier Ankita Raina 6-3 7-5.
