Sonay Kartal continues stunning run to Ilkley semi-final

Brighton's Sonay Kartal beat seeded opposition Aliona Bolsova to reach the last four.

Sonay Kartal continued her run at the LTA’s Lexus Ilkley Trophy as she beat seeded opposition to reach the last four.

Brighton’s Kartal, who is on the LTA’s Pro Scholarship Programme, was up against fifth seed Aliona Bolsova in Ilkley on Thursday.

And the 21-year-old produced a dazzling display to progress to the semi-final, beating the Spaniard 6-3 6- 3.

Kartal will now face top seed Emma Navarro in the last four, with the American beating seventh seed Nao Hibino 6-1 7-5 on Thursday.

Elsewhere, qualifier Charles Broom went down fighting as the Brit pushed Zsombor Piros to the brink in a nail-biting quarter-final.

Broom fell 6-7(3) 6-3 7-6(2) to the Hungarian on Thursday, with Piros now facing third seed Sebastian Ofner in the last four.

Meanwhile, wildcard pairing Madeleine Brooks and Holly Hutchinson continued their incredible run as they reached the last four.

Brooks and Hutchinson rallied from a set down to defeat Valentini Grammatikopoulou and Simona Waltert 1-6 6-1 [10-6] and keep their campaign alive.

They next face Hibino and Natalija Stevanovic, who prevailed 2-6 7-6(5) [10-8] versus Elsa Jacquemot and Raluca Georgiana Serban.
