Simu Liu isn't letting an injury stop him from taking on the red carpet.

The Shang-Chi star stepped out on Thursday night to attend the 2023 Game Awards, where he showed off the ankle brace he has worn since tearing his Achilles tendon in October.

Beyond the grey medical boot, Liu donned a shiny black dress shoe on his left foot along with an all-black outfit consisting of slacks, a t-shirt and a blazer. He accessorized with a small silver chain and pendant.

The 2023 Game Awards red carpet was also attended by the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Jordan Peele, Matthew McConaughey and Anthony Mackie.

Liu's appearance at the award show comes just over a week after he officially stepped down from his role as a part of Disney World’s 2023 Candlelight Processional, citing "health scares."

Speaking about the origin of his injuries, Liu revealed to PEOPLE in the 2023 Sexiest Man Alive Issue that he hosted an "Olympic-style tournament of sports" in Miami with family members from both his American and Canadian sides, but things went south when he was playing basketball.

"All of a sudden I feel like someone has either shot me or kicked my shin out from underneath me or just barreled into me," the actor explained.

"I'm like, 'Who hit me?' Everyone's looking at me and they're like, 'Dude, nobody hit you,' " Liu added. "And it was at that moment that I knew that my Achilles was torn, and I went to urgent care right away."

Initially, the Barbie actor was using crutches to aid his mobility, as evidenced by his posts on Instagram. He even decided to dress up as Aaron Rodgers, who also recently had an Achilles injury, for a Halloween Instagram post this year.

Despite the injury, Liu remains positive. "I firmly believe that with every door closing, there's other doors that open, and I think this to me is a reminder to really lean into the other parts of my life that I've grown very passionate about," he told PEOPLE at the time.
