Perak police chief confirms documents damaged in CID office’s fire incident

IPOH, June 28 — Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri today confirmed that several documents inside the Perak contingent police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) operations office have been damaged in a fire incident that took place yesterday.

However, Mohd Yusri said that police could not determine what are the documents, their significance, and the level of damage as the investigation into to the fire incident is being fully carried out by the Perak Fire and Rescue Department.

“We have left the fire investigation to the Fire and Rescue Department and their Forensic Unit to identify the source of the fire.

“We have also requested the help from Public Work Department and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to determine the safety issue in the area following the incident,” he said during a press conference at the Perak police headquarters here.

Mohd Yusri also said that the fire incident affected a bit of the work procedure at the CID’s office, but added that they were helped and supported in terms of logistics and facilities by other departments.

He also said that police will do their own investigation into the fire incident, but pointed out that they could not enter the scene at the moment as they wanted the fire department to complete their investigation first.

Yesterday, the CID’s operation office at Jalan Iskandar caught fire at 3.15pm.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said firefighters received a call at 3.14pm and teams from two stations were sent to the location.

He also said that the fire affected the CID’s office at the second floor, which suffered 40 per cent damage.
