MUAR, Nov 5 ― Political party supporters and grassroots members turned up in high spirits here at the SMK Tengku Mahkota candidate nomination centre, waving their party flags and placards, as they made their way through the muddy pathways to gather at the school's field.

Unlike previous general elections, there was no “flag war” along the roads and main business districts here, in the run-up to the 15th general election (GE15).

Supporters had earlier gathered at several locations around the school before marching with their candidates to the nomination centre.

Like in GE14, three candidates are vying for the Muar parliamentary seat, which Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman who was then with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) won, against Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS.

Currently, Perikatan Nasional (PN), BN and Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) which Syed Saddiq formed after leaving Bersatu are here at the nomination centre, getting their official documents vetted.

The PN candidate is Abdullah Husin from Pas and the BN candidate is Mohd Helmy Abd Latif.

Returning officer Datuk Mustaffa Kamal Shamsudin will be officially announcing the candidates after the registration ends.
