Speaking at a recent Q&A, Gill commented on her time on the show, saying: "How many times do you go to work with your best friends? It's been amazing. The crew! [We] really were in the best hands. Every few weeks I got new best friends. I'm actually speechless that I've come away with the most amazing friends."
She continued to suggest that she would love to return to the show in the future: "We're always going to be a part of it, and you've just seen what can happen in years to come. So if they need another companion in the future, I will answer that call."
Gill joined as one of the Doctor's companions at the beginning of season 11 along with Tosin Cole and Bradley Walsh.
While Cole and Walsh departed at the end of season 12, Gill has been a companion in every episode of Jodie Whittaker's incarnation of the Time Lord.
Gill and Whittaker's departure from the show also marks the return of David Tennant who will officially play the 14th Doctor.
Tennant will star in three specials in 2023 to celebrate the series' 60th anniversary. Also returning from his days as the 10th Doctor is Catherine Tate as Donna Noble and Bernard Cribbins as her grandfather Wilf.
Cribbins had shot all of his scenes for the show before his death in July at the age of 93.
Also joining the show is Neil Patrick Harris, but it is not confirmed what role Ncuti Gatwa will play after being announced as the 15th Doctor.
