KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s national carrier, Malaysia Airlines, is stepping in to offer a possible solution for those affected by the sudden suspension on Thursday (12 October) of operations by low-cost airline MYAirline.

In a statement post on its social media pages, Malaysia Airlines said it wished to offer assistance to the passengers who were stranded, and also extended an invitation to the management of MYAirline “work together in reallocating their passengers on our flights where available”.

The carrier also advised that passengers with an urgent need to travel may immediately visit any Malaysia Airlines ticketing offices within the country to make their booking.

Passengers who do so may receive 55 per cent off the base fare of their flight tickets on affected routes by presenting their MYAirline tickets, for travel up to November 2023.

“We are here to assist passengers in getting to their destination seamlessly and safely,” Malaysia Airlines said.

Passengers stranded at KLIA2 on Thursday

A recent addition to the Malaysian aviation industry, MYAirline abruptly announced the suspension of its operations on Thursday morning, catching passengers off guard.

The airline - which was founded in 2021 - broke the news through a statement posted on its social media platforms.

Passengers were left bewildered upon arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) to find MYAirline's check-in counters closed and deserted.

In its statement, MYAirline said its board of directors expressed their "deep regret" over the situation, explaining that they had worked tirelessly to explore various partnership and capital-raising options to avert the suspension.

"Unfortunately, the constraints of time have left us with no alternative but to take this decision," they said in the statement.

The suspension of operations also comes after the resignation of MYAirlines CEO Rayner Teo on Monday, 9 October.
