Luxury designer Ivan Young opens first boutique in KL, founded by two Malaysian sisters

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 — Internationally-renowned designer Ivan Young is famous for his feminine designs, attention to detail and a keen eye in identifying luxurious materials to craft his creations.

Thanks to two Malaysian sisters Jane and Elle Tan, Young’s first ever retail store is now opened in Kuala Lumpur.

Located in The Starhill, this makes the boutique the first Malaysian-owned luxury women’s wear brand to have a presence in this shopping mall.

The store’s opening last month was attended by local celebrities and social media influencers, and introduced a luxury collection for children.

The brand was founded in 2016 by the Tan sisters who saw the potential in Young’s designs. After operating the brand online to great success, Jane and Elle decided to open a brick-and-mortar store in Kuala Lumpur late last year.

“Now that we have a physical store, it brings more convenience to our Malaysian customers, including made-to-measure and custom design service,” said Jane.

“There is better communication, plus we now have a space for private events for our loyal clientele.”

According to Jane, the brand has four main categories which are Ready-to-Wear, Luxury Silk, Iconic and Couture.

“Each outfit is considered a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, with couture-like quality in each stitch and with intricate embellishment creating a unique look,” she explained.

A fashion designer from Guangzhou, China, Young graduated from South China Agricultural University in 2013 with first-class Bachelor of Arts and Fashion degree.

With years of experience in the fashion industry as well as a passion for high fashion, his debut collection launched online was an immediate hit.

Using premium materials that are handpicked by the designer himself, the main material used in the collection is silk whereby only premium silk is used and matched with luxurious and eye-catching embellishments.

Ivan Young has been worn by international celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Becky G, Carly Rae Jepsen, Meghan Trainor, Natti Natasha and Kelsea Ballerini.

In 2015, Ivan Young presented its Spring Summer 2019 Collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kuala Lumpur.

In October last year, the brand partnered with Arab Fashion Week, where the label presented its Couture Fall Winter 2022/2023 collection.

“The brand is turning six in 2023, and it is still taking steps learning and growing,” Jane said.

“We are expanding the brand overseas. Currently, we have retailers such as Harvey Nichols in Doha, private retailers from Saudi Arabia and one from the Netherlands.

“We hope to bring Ivan Young to our customers all over the world physically, so they can shop and view products at ease and enjoy the experience,” she concluded.
