KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — Internationally acclaimed designer Datuk Jimmy Choo is doing his part to promote the use of songket.

The 73-year-old was recently spotted in London donning a blazer made from the material while on a stroll with his mentee Peony Sin.

In a clip posted by World Microphone London on Instagram, Choo shared that the outfit was designed by Sin.

The one-minute video has since gone viral, according to portal Says.com.

"Sown by hand with gold and silver threads,” Choo said of his jacket.

"(It) was designed for me by my favourite student, (Sin),” the fashion icon added.

In the same clip, Sin was also seen wearing a cheongsam made from songket.

Choo started donning a songket blazer during the London Fashion Week in September.

"This is an anticipated show and I want to put on a specially designed songket jacket for the world to see," he told The Star.

Songket is listed under Unesco’s intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2021.
