KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — Umno’s Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said today that he will continue to contest the Sembrong seat, but will wait for the final confirmation from his party.

The caretaker defence minister said he could not imagine contesting at any other seat.

“I don’t know any other place. As far as I know, even the people of Sembrong have not suggested any other names,” the Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer-general said at a Ministry of Defence event here.

“So let’s wait and see. Anything can happen in politics,” he added, saying he would hope for the best but expect the worst.

Additionally, he scoffed at PKR’s reveal of its new so-called “high-profile” candidates yesterday, saying that in the end, the voters will make their choices on who they feel will represent them the best.

“Realistically, the candidate that the people will support and vote in is the one who will do the work.

“In the end, the people of Sembrong will determine whether I have the right to represent them,” he said, adding that he would not be defence minister for very long if voters decided to reject him.

Hishammuddin was officiating a send-off event for the next cohort of Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) peacekeeping mission to Lebanon.

Also present was Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces General Tan Sri Affendi Buang, the high commissioner of the Brunei embassy here, and ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Muez.
