KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — Contrary to popular view, beauty is never skin deep. Rather, it is a reflection of one's overall health and wellbeing.

Committed to this belief, local beauty product distributor R Beaute launched the Be Bold, Be Safe campaign to educate people on the importance of early detection in treating breast cancer.

Hundreds of salons nationwide under two international haircare brands carried by R Beaute — Kevin Murphy and Montibello — joined the campaign.

The two-day campaign, held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month (Pink October), kicked off yesterday (October 23) at the KL Eco City Mall. The launch was attended by local celebrities and social media influencers, all dressed in pink to show their support.

Dozens of visitors turned up for free clinical breast examinations by professional nurses from Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) and benefited from their breast self-examination tutorials.

The crowd also made a beeline for the charity haircuts and hairstyling services offered by the brand ambassadors of Kevin Murphy and Montibello, at only RM20 and RM10, respectively. The proceeds will go to BWCA.

Additionally, both brands have also pledged to set aside RM1 for each haircare product that they sell throughout October to aid the organisation.

“We believe that every bottle of Kevin Murphy and Montibello products sold should serve a purpose beyond beauty, and towards the wellbeing of the community,” said R Beaute chief executive officer Roy Kow.

“Through this year's campaign, we are aiming to shore up RM5,000 for the BCWA,” added Kow at the launch event emceed by R Beaute PR and corporate communications manager Phoebe Shafinaz.

Meanwhile, emcee-actress Bernie Chan recalled her personal experience of witnessing cancer survivors in her family to emphasise on regular screening and check-ups.

“Early detection of cancer can save lives. Pink October is the best time for women to get free screening and I'm happy to see more females are eager to benefit from these initiatives,” she said.

Likewise, wellness and fitness influencer Kit Mah said regular testing can guide those at risk of developing cancer to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

“Hormonal imbalances and inadequate detoxification can also contribute to breast cancer.

“Regular testing allows us to have a better understanding of our body so that we can draw up an individualised lifestyle plan,” he said.
