KUCHING, July 14 — Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will help its federal allies Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the six state elections next month, chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said today.

He said he had attended a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently, and will convey this decision to assist the campaign to GPS component parties soon.

“We are helping, but in what way?” he told reporters here.

He hinted that the assistance to PH and BN will be on a “government-to-government” level.

“For example, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, as the deputy prime minister, has to help,” he said, but did not elaborate on what he meant by that.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Umno president, had previously said he hopes Abang Johari would personally select the GPS leaders helping in the campaign.

While on an official visit to Sarawak early this month, Zahid said that he asked GPS through its secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi for assistance in the six states — pointing to GPS’ performance in its state election.

Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will hold their state election on August 12.
