Gordon Ramsay is quite the romantic at home.

Ramsay opened up about how he and wife Tana carve out special time together amid their busy schedules. The pair have their hands full: They welcomed son Jesse James in November and also share Megan, 25, twins Jack and Holly, 24, Matilda “Tilly," 22, and Oscar, 5.

“Date nights are crucial, whether it's the cinema, whether it's going out for a drive. We have a little time, but it's quality, and so that is really important,” he tells PEOPLE in a new interview ahead of his partnership with Welch's Fruit Snacks.

Those nights don't have to fall on a weekend. In fact, they prefer weeknights.

"Everyone thinks Monday is the most boring day. It's not,” he explains. “With a young family, we are grabbing moments, and that date night moment is crucial.”

After 27 years of marriage, the couple learned that small getaways are also one of their favorite ways to reconnect and spend quality time together.

“We were in Nottingham two weeks ago. We went to go see Tilly up at her university. And after walking the campus and seeing Tilly on her campus, we then went for dinner at a two-Michelin star [restaurant] up in Nottingham and then drove back the next morning,” says Gordon.

Back in September for his PEOPLE cover story, Gordon revealed that Tana usually cooks the family meals. (“The kids always say my food’s too posh,” he said at the time.) Now, the restaurateur opens up about what his favorite meal is that his wife makes.

“I would say it would be her bolognese lasagna, where she makes this incredible bolognese sauce,” he says.

Tana’s cooking, particularly this dish, gives him a run for his money. “It goes into the oven for about four and a half hours,” he says. “Really delicious indeed, pretty unique.”

The dad of six, who is now the Chief Fruit Officer of Welch’s Fruit Snacks, also shared about what it’s like being a dad to a baby and a five-year old versus his older children.

“I think I'm a better dad the second time round, if I'm honest,” he admits. "Tana's always been an amazing mom. But I think, if I had to self critique, I know I'm better because I've got experience now."

But, "I think we've done a good job so far with the first four," he adds.

When it comes to the vast age gap in his family, Gordon finds loads of benefits.

“The second part of this family with the other two little ones, I think they're in a great position because they're getting educated a lot earlier from their bigger, older siblings, and they're fascinated with their careers,” he says.

Daugther Megan works as a Metropolitan Police in London, and son Jack is a Royal Marine commando.

“Oscar understands what a police officer does now because his big sister is one, and then he's still trying to put Jack's Green Beret on," says Gordon. "So as a 5-year-old, he's picking up on the importance of working and career wise. It's pretty incredible.”
