Cameron Diaz Thinks Couples Sleeping In Separate Bedrooms Should Be “Normalized"

"I will go and sleep in my room. You go sleep in your room. I’m fine.”

Cameron Diaz is getting candid about what she once considered to be her ideal living situation. During a recent appearance on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast, the actress sat down with hosts Molly Sims and Emese Gormley to talk about why she believes the idea of married couples sleeping in separate bedrooms should be “normalized.”

“We should normalize separate bedrooms,” she said during the episode, which aired on Dec. 19. “To me, I would literally, I have my house, you have yours. We have the family house in the middle. I will go and sleep in my room. You go sleep in your room. I’m fine.”

Diaz then cheekily added, “And we have the bedroom in the middle that we can convene in for our relations.”

The show’s hosts, along with Diaz’s Avaline wine business partner, Katherine Power, were all quick to share their thoughts on the A-lister’s hot take while warning her about the backlash she may receive for her unconventional idea.

“I’ve already said it,” Diaz said in response, clarifying that her thoughts on the matter changed after marrying her husband, Benji Madden, in 2015. “By the way, I don’t feel that way now because my husband is so wonderful. I said that before I got married.”

This isn’t the first time the actress has opened up about how Madden has changed her life. In 2016, she told Harper’s Bazaar that getting married was the “biggest thing I’ve done in my 40s.”

“It’s pretty awesome. I didn’t think it was something I’d do, and I don’t know if I’d have done it if I hadn’t met my husband,” she shared at the time. “It was a surprise.”
