Bersatu supreme council member Zuraida Kamaruddin has expressed hope that Kuala Langat MP Dr Xavier Jayakumar's pledge of allegiance to Perikatan Nasional (PN) will change attitudes among opposition MPs.

Speaking to reporters at an event in Bukit Antarabangsa, Selangor today, Zuraida appeared unaware that Xavier had withdrawn from PKR and declared his support for PN.

"Perhaps he has gotten kesedaran (clarity). I hope it is genuine. God willing, he will work with us and help the rakyat," said Zuraida, who is also Ampang MP.

The housing and local government minister wished to see Xavier's decision having an impact on "irrational" opposition MPs who do nothing more than to criticise the government, which she said was trying its best.

"I hope that with Xavier joining us, those who are very keras (recalcitrant) in the opposition will change their attitudes," she added.

Zuraida and Xavier were both on the same campaign team during the 2018 PKR leadership polls. Both won seats in the PKR leadership council with the position of vice-president.

Xavier left PKR today on grounds that he was frustrated over the past year's events and that his switching of allegiance was designed to prevent a general election from happening.

He said the country's focus should be on tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and fixing the economy, not elections.
