'Zero Visibility' on South Dakota Highway as Winter Storm Bears Down

A coast-to-coast winter storm brought whiteout conditions to parts of northeastern South Dakota overnight February 22 into February 23, spurring authorities to advise drivers against travel.

The Spink County Sheriff’s Department said this video shows conditions overnight on US Highway 281 north of Redfield.

“Large drifts, blowing snow, with zero visibility in areas,” the department wrote on Facebook. “No Travel Advised!”

The county was under a blizzard warning until noon on Thursday, with the National Weather Service warning of biting wind chills and additional snow accumulations up to 3 inches. Credit: Spink County Sheriff’s Department via Storyful
