Zelensky Honors Soldiers and Families of Fallen at War Anniversary Commemoration

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded members of the armed forces in Kyiv on February 24 at an event marking the first anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In a ceremony at Sofia Square in the capital, Zelensky presented medals to members of the armed forces and some of the families of those who have died in the past year.

“Today – after a year of the decisive war for Ukraine’s independence – here, in Sofia Square, in this great place that saw both Yaroslav and Bogdan and Mikhail and many others who fought for Ukraine – I want to say to everyone who fights for Ukraine and who lives in Ukraine … I want to say: I’m proud of you! We are all proud of you!” he wrote in a Facebook post. Credit: Volodymyr Zelensky via Storyful
