Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi can heave a sigh of relief after his Covid-19 screening test yielded a negative result.

Zahid had came in close contact with BN's Pitas candidate Sufian Abd Karim. Sufian tested positive for Covid-19 during the recent Sabah state election campaign and has been under home quarantine.

"Test done. The result is negative. Alhamdulillah," Zahid briefly tweeted today.

In a separate tweet earlier, Zahid said two Health Ministry officers came to his residence where a Rapid Test Kit (RTK) Antibody test was conducted.

For the record, the RTK Antibody test detects antibodies present in a patient's body seven to 14 days after exposure to the virus.

According to the Health Ministry, a negative result from the RTK Antibody test does not mean the individual is not infected and cannot be used to confirm Covid-19 infection.

The RTK Antibody test was also said to be less effective than the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.

Overall, this may be the third time Zahid took a Covid-19 test after spending days campaigning for his party in Sabah this month.

Other than Sufian, two other Umno leaders tested positive for Covid-19 - Umno Youth deputy chief Shahril Hamdan and supreme council member Mohd Razlan Rafii.

Both contracted the virus after campaigning in Sabah.

Among the Umno leaders who were spotted campaigning alongside Sufian include Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin, Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad, and Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

BN secretary-general Annuar Musa was also ordered to undergo quarantine as he was identified as a close contact of Mohd Razlan.

Asyraf had taken to social media to announce that he is under home quarantine and has tested negative after undergoing two tests. He is expected to take another test tomorrow.
