Zafrul laughs off rumours he ordered 'nasi ganja heli delivery'

Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has laughed off fake news circulating via Whatsapp message alleging that he was the one who ordered “nasi ganja" from Ipoh, Perak to be delivered by a chartered helicopter.

He clarified that the photo of him eating the mixed rice dish called nasi vanggey in the doctored viral message was actually from December, adding that he had not used a helicopter to get takeaway from another state.

“It was amusing to receive a WhatsApp message claiming that I ordered nasi ganja using a helicopter service. They used an old picture of me eating nasi vanggey in December 2020 but cropped out the date.

“I actually haven’t had nasi vanggey in a long time but rather than order it by helicopter, it’s better to use the delivery service of Nasi Kandaq Transporter (NKT), Nasi Kandaq Runner and more while at the same time, you will be helping small entrepreneurs,” he said on Facebook on Friday.

This came after it was reported that a helicopter had landed on Padang Ipoh on Friday morning to pick up 36 packs of “nasi ganja".

In another post on Saturday, Zafrul said that after he had posted the denial, NKT contacted him offering to send nasi kandar all the way from Penang.

He said that he was able to give the staff at his ministry a treat.

Zafrul also congratulated Mamu Zir from NKT saying that he had set up the business during last year's movement control order in June.

"Starting with 24 packs, now NKT delivers up to 2,000 packs five days a week throughout Malaysia.

"Congratulations Mamu for wisely looking for opportunities in difficult times, and may NKT's business continue to grow.

"Anyone who is craving can order from them," he added.
