Yu Zheng had wanted Angelababy in "Romance of the Condor Heroes"
30 Jun – Although he vehemently defended his choice of casting Michelle Chen as Little Dragon Girl in his 2013 series, "Romance of the Condor Heroes", producer Yu Zheng's recent post seemed to have betrayed his previous stance.
As reported on Mingpao, Yu posted a photo of actress Angelababy in a Little Dragon Girl costume from when she appeared in a variety show recently, and wrote, "If you weren't sick at the time and participated in my "Romance of the Condor Heroes", I wouldn't have been ridiculed by the masses."
He added that it was his biggest regret in life.v
Netizes who saw the post immediately slammed the mainland producer, saying that his confession was a slight towards Michelle, who still tried her best to play the role despite the backlash against her.
It is noted that a lot of fans of the said franchise blasted Yu's choice of casting the Taiwanese actress in the past, with some stressing that Michelle was not ethereal enough and was "too fat" to play the role.
However, Yu defended his casting choice at the time, stressing that he never regretted the choice.
The producer had since deleted the said post, but wrote in another, saying, "I was just lamenting. There were no intentions of insulting anybody. Seeing such a beautiful look, is it wrong to be a little emotional?"
