The cast of Young Sheldon is weighing on the series’ fast-approaching end date.

Shortly after the news broke, leading man Iain Armitage addressed the news on Instagram.

“In case you wondered, I love my family,” he said, alongside a throwback photo with TV siblings Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan, all seated on Leonard and Sheldon’s couch. “There’s about 200 more people who make Young Sheldon happen and I’m grateful for each of them.

“We will make the best seventh season we can possibly make,” Armitage promised fans. “And behind the scenes there will be lots of laughter and lots of tears because I love all of these people so much.”

Revord, who plays Sheldon’s twin sister Missy, was among the first to comment on her TV sib’s post. “Can’t stop crying,” she wrote. “My family forever!”

“After seven fabulous, hilarious, fulfilling years, Young Sheldon will say goodbye,” Annie Potts (aka Meemaw) added in her own Instagram post. “It’s a bittersweet moment. I have loved every moment of this work and loved every person who has made this wonderful show possible. I have been awed by the talent of my fellow cast members who feel more like family than colleagues. I am beyond grateful to all the Young Sheldon viewers and fans who made us #1. So, while I’ll miss the day-to-day business of making Young Sheldon, I celebrate seven wonderful years of laughter and love. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of it.”

Executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland addressed the final season in a joint statement Tuesday. “Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper, and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience,” they said. “We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers these past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire Young Sheldon family, we’re excited to share this final season with you.”

Additional cast statements will be added if/when they’re made available.

Assuming the prequel’s narrative keeps at a steady pace, Sheldon will turn 14 in Season 7 — the age at which, per Big Bang’s previously established timeline, the future Nobel Prize winner moves from Medford, Texas, to Pasadena, Calif., to begin his graduate studies at the California Institute of Technology.

That same year, Sheldon’s older brother Georgie — who recently put a ring on Mandy’s finger — marries for the first time, and family patriarch George meets his maker, setting up Young Sheldon for a bittersweet sendoff not unlike early ’90s classic The Wonder Years. But time will tell if the spinoff remains true to canon. As Holland previously warned TVLine, “just because [something happened on Big Bang] doesn’t mean it’s a story [our narrator] has to tell.”

The Young Sheldon news comes as Lorre and Warner Bros. are readying a second Big Bang spinoff for streaming service Max — though Lorre recently said that development is still in the “prenatal” stage.
