European Union officials on Wednesday formally approved the bloc's multi billion euro fund that is to help wean countries off fossil fuels by shielding vulnerable communities from the economic impact of transforming polluting sectors. As part of its plan to eliminate net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the EU has set aside part of its budget and COVID-19 recovery fund to support those most affected by plans targeting industries relying on or producing fossil fuels. "Without the support of the Just Transition Fund, the social and economic costs triggered could have indeed discouraged the competent authorities and economic agents to undertake the required transition steps," said European Commission spokeswoman Vivian Loonela.

Wildlife officials in Fort Myers, Florida, came to the rescue of a woman who discovered a seven-foot alligator in her garage on February 28.Footage by Torrie Heathcoat shows the spirited gator being removed from the garage by officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.According to a Facebook post from Heathcoat, the family had left the garage door open for around 10 minutes, and this was enough time for the gator to get inside.“I called 911 and they dispatched a lovely and calm policewoman who stayed at the garage door until Fish and Wildlife arrived,” she said.According to Heathcoat, the unwanted reptile guest was relocated to an alligator farm in North Fort Meyers.“Florida friends, it is mating season and gators roam … Keep your garage door closed,” Heathcoat warned. Dozens of African migrants are feared to have died on Wednesday after smugglers threw them overboard off Djibouti as they were en route to Yemen, hoping to enter Saudi Arabia to find work.
