She was feeling happy with her outfit at Blackpink's concert in Singapore, but her sartorial choice wasn’t a fashion hit with everyone.

Local radio DJ Hazelle Teo, known for her body positivity, revealed to 8days that she later got a text from her boss over her concert attire.

Teo, 29, said, “I went to the concert in this outfit by Moschino. I thought it was very cute. It's this short black cropped top with an inflated heart at the front. I was happy to wear it there, and I felt happy in my own skin.”

However, her boss texted her a few days later, suggesting that she “reconsider your choices of outfit next time”.

Teo enquired whether the remark was due to the outfit itself or the way she shot her photos and videos at the concert.

Her boss then said she should consider the “station’s image” and Teo apologised for overlooking that.

“Sometimes, when I go out for personal reasons, like attending a concert, I tend to forget that I have other things to think about,” said Teo, adding that if it was an event for the station, she “would never have worn that”.

That said, Teo doesn’t feel like she’s restricted, as the station is “a second home that all 12 DJs work hard to contribute to”, and she doesn’t want to pull everyone down by being uncooperative.

Very comfortable about how she looks

When asked about the criticisms she has received, Teo said she has many — an inevitable situation as someone in the public eye.

Though she has received nasty comments about her appearance, she isn’t bothered by them as she is “very comfortable with how I look”.

What weighs on her more is when she receives feedback about her command of Mandarin not being up to par. She clarified that she doesn’t see it as a personal attack, and it’s “something that will make me reflect very hard on myself”.

Teo said to 8days, “It is a form of criticism, but it is actually constructive. It makes me think about the things I said on air to make them leave that comment. I'm hard on myself when it comes to performing well.”
