WTFilms Boards Sales On Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury’s ‘The Soul Eater’; Horror Thriller Follows Duo’s Blumhouse-Acquired ‘The Deep House’ – AFM
EXCLUSIVE: Paris-based genre special WTFilms has boarded Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury’s horror thriller ‘The Soul Eater’ ahead of the AFM.
The chilling drama unfolds against the backdrop of a mountain village where an old legend about a malevolent creature resurfaces following the disappearance of local children and a series of violent and gruesome deaths.

Virginie Ledoyen (Just the Two of Us) and Paul Hamy (The Last Journey) co-star as two police detectives with very different methods who are sent to investigate the crimes. Sandrine Bonnaire (Happening) joins them in the cast.
The production is adapted from French writer Alexis Laipsker’s bestseller of the same name. WTFilms has released a first-look image (see above) and will screen a first promo in the market for the French-language film which is in post-production.
Directorial duo Bustillo and Maury gained fans in the U.S. for their 2021 English-language supernatural horror The Deep House, which was acquired by Blumhouse Television and Epix for North America, and Shudder Original Kandisha, taking inspiration from Moroccan folklore.
The new film is produced by Phase 4 Productions and Place du Marché Productions, while Star Invest has pre-acquired French rights.
There have been suggestions that independent European sales companies will be thinner on the ground at the AFM this year, but WTFilms is gearing up for a busy market.
“AFM remains an important market for us to attend given our focus on genre films… said WTFilms co-head Gregory Chambet [alongside Dimitri Stephanides], who reports strong demand for horror, action and science fiction titles heading into the market.
Further new titles on its slate include Abel Danan’s English-language horror Don’t Watch about a gathering of influencers in an isolated country house, which turns bloody after an insistent stalker turns up following a live video stream.
WTFilms is also launching Frédéric Jardin’s English and French-language post-apocalyptic thriller Survive, starring Émilie Dequenne as a mother battling to keep her children alive after the world undergoes a polarity reversal which drains water from the oceans, unleashing flesh-eating creatures from the abyss.
WTFilms is co-selling the movie with Federation Studios newly launched an international theatrical film sales label Ginger & Fed, headed by with Sabine Chemaly.
The company will also kick off sales on on James Mark Fight English-language sci-fi combat drama Fight Another Day, co-starring Eric Johnson, Christina Ochoa, Martin Kove and Jim Belushi, and Pierre Mouchet’s remote mountain village-set revenge horror thriller Schlitter in which a man finds himself being pursued by the father of a friend who died as a child in a tragic circumstances.
