Wrangler and Opening Ceremony get '90s nostalgia with new collaboration

Kontoor Brands, which counts Wrangler among its labels, has reached its zero-waste targets at its owned distribution centers across North America

Wrangler is reviving some of its favorite pieces from the 1980s and '90s, serving them up with a high-fashion twist.

The denim brand has partnered with the fashion label on a capsule collection of reinterpreted archival pieces, WWD reports. The limited-edition series, which is named ‘Value,' will roll out on the Opening Ceremony website on October 10. It will span separates made from organic cotton such as wide-leg jeans, cargo pants, t-shirts and jackets, with a street style aesthetic.

Multiple fashion brands have been reviving the allure of their archival collections recently -- the luxury label Coach unveiled a pop-up experience last month that offered shoppers a series of ‘restored' pieces from its archives and a batch of unique, ‘remixed,' one-of-a-kind pieces that incorporated archival styles. Gap marked its 50th anniversary with two ‘Denim Through the Decades' and ‘1969 Premium' collections inspired by key designs pulled from its own past, and April saw Tommy Hilfiger reboot its vintage Coca-Cola collection, taking inspiration from a collaboration that first launched in 1986. Perry Ellis has played on the trend via an ongoing ‘Perry Ellis America' capsule collection, the third installment of which dropped in September, comprising a 35-piece "curated mix of reissued and updated interpretations of original designs."

Wrangler, meanwhile, has been focusing on high-profile collaborations, having teamed up with recording artist Lil Nas X earlier this year on limited-edition collection for men and women featuring imagery relating to the rapper's hit song "Old Town Road."
