In the first of two days of direct questioning from U.S. senators, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett "people say that you're a female Scalia," and asked "what would you say?"
Barrett answered: "If I'm confirmed, you wouldn't be getting Justice Scalia. You would be getting Justice Barrett."
Graham asked Barrett, a devout Catholic and a favorite of religious conservatives, whether she could set aside her religious beliefs in making decisions as a justice.
"I can," she answered.
She also told Graham her family owns a gun, but that won't influence her case decisions.
