World War Z producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner have offered up an update on the zombie apocalypse drama's long-awaited sequel.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the twosome – who are partners at Brad Pitt's Plan B production company – reassured fans that the follow-up will be made "someday" as they're eager not to give up on the franchise just yet.

"We love Max Brooks's book," Kleiner gushed. "We love the universe of it. It doesn't feel like the World War Z is done and over with."

Released in 2013, World War Z follows former United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), as he races to put a stop to a fast-growing virus that threatens to destroy the world as humans know it.

"The pace of change is so quick that dogmas about what works and what the market is and all the bedrocks of certainty are hard to come by," Kleiner added, as he discussed the obstacles of working in an industry that is forever evolving.

"You're relying on resourcefulness, on instinct, on relationships, on being nimble, being flexible, not being dogmatic. That can be challenging, but in that is a lot of opportunity," he concluded.

So far, directors such as J.A. Bayona and David Fincher have been linked to the project, only to exit later on. Last year, Paramount Pictures reportedly pulled the plug on the movie because of its inflated budget too, so it's safe to say that World War Z 2 has had a tricky production so far.

Elsewhere during the chat, Kleiner and Gardner revealed that they're currently working on an adaptation of Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor's Harvey Weinstein-based book She Said, alongside Disobedience screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz.

The pair also said that they'd love to reunite with Parasite's Bong Joon-ho sometime in the future, after working with him to create Netflix drama Okja.

"It would be a total dream," Kleiner gushed. "He is a true master."
