Worker scales UK’s tallest cathedral spire to change lightbulb at 400ft
A brave worker scaled the UK's tallest church spire to change its lightbulbs from more than 400ft in the air.
Gary Price, Clerk of Works at Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire, climbed 332 steps to the roof before ascending a series of medieval ladders to reach the "weather door" — a small opening leading out to the drop — while strapped in to a harness.
He then scaled the final 30ft on the outside of the spire using metal rungs to reach the bulbs.
Gary and his team were surrounded by an extraordinary view of the city while completing the work.
"Changing the bulbs is always an exciting day and a real privilege as it's something I only get to do once every three or four years," Gary said.
