Wong Jing not affected by threats of boycott
29 Jan – Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Jing recently stated that he is not at all worried whether or not his Lunar New Year movie, "Enter the Fat Dragon" will be well-received by the audience.
As reported on Oriental Daily, the director who attended the promotional event of the said movie alongside lead actor Donnie Yen, was nonchalant when it came to reports that netizens - specifically the supporters of the Hong Kong independence movement - are planning to boycott the movie.
"I would rather not talk about politics. If you don't want to watch it, you don't have to. That's an option," he said.
He added, "It doesn't matter. The movie will be released in Hong Kong first on Lunar New Year, but it will be released in China on Valentine's Day."
It is noted that Wong is a firm supporter of the One China policy, having already drew the ire of many Hong Kong netizens in the past for his openness about the matter.
In a past interview, the director said that he doesn't mind if his movies don't do well in Hong Kong as he could always make more profits outside the city.
On the other hand, when asked about the progress of his new project, the remake of Jin Yong's ""The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber", Wong said that he will only announce all the details later.
