A playful wombat was seen jumping and racing around a field on Maria Island, Tasmania, recently shared footage shows.
Samuel Dessen was camping while on vacation on Maria Island when he spotted the wombat grazing near his tent. He then recorded the jolly scene that ensued.
“I went to leave my campsite. I was walking past the wombat and all of a sudden it jumped into action, as if to play. It actually did a full sideways roll at rapid speed before it continued to run around,” he said.
In Tasmania, the wombat is widespread and found from sea level to higher areas but shows a preference for heathland, coastal scrub and open forest, according to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania. Credit: Samuel Dessen via Storyful
