A woman has died after a man allegedly stabbed her in a residential home in Scarborough on Sunday afternoon, police say.

Toronto police responded to a call just before 5 p.m. about a stabbing at a residence in Merkley Square, just south of Ellesmere and Orton Park roads, Insp. Dan Pravica told reporters Sunday.

A woman was found with stab wounds and pronounced dead on the scene, Pravica said. A man has been taken into custody, he said, and there is no threat to public safety. Pravica did not say whether the man had been charged.

Pravica was unable to provide any other details about the two individuals or their relationship to each other.

The homicide unit is currently investigating, he said, and more details about the incident are unavailable at this time.

It's was the second fatal stabbing police reported in Scarborough this weekend, after another man died Saturday evening in the Brimley Road and Finch Avenue E. area.
