Woman fractures leg jumping out window to escape man who trapped her in bedroom: police

Windsor police say a man is facing charges after breaking into a home and assaulting a woman, who fractured her leg as she escaped by jumping through a window.

Police say they received a call around 2 a.m. on Saturday for an injured person on Elm Street.

Officers were told that a man who was previously in a relationship with the woman had broken into her home and trapped her in a bedroom, police say.

"The victim was strangled and struck several times before the suspect threatened to kill her," police said in a media release on Monday. "When the suspect left the bedroom for a short time, the victim fled to the window and jumped, sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries."

Police said the woman suffered a fractured leg.

The man had ran away, police say, but police arrested him on Curry Avenue.

Police say that through investigation, they determined the accused had "a history of assault and sexual assault."

A 25-year-old Windsor man is facing two counts of assault as well as aggravated assault, assault and assault with a weapon.

He's also facing five counts of sexual assault, break and enter, forcible confinement, uttering threats, unlawfully being in a home and three breaches of probation.
