A 67-year-old woman is facing a charge of careless driving causing death after fatally hitting a pedestrian in North York last month.

Police say the collision happened soon after she exited Highway 401 onto Keele Street, just before 7 a.m. on Jan. 9.

As she turned northbound onto Keele, the woman hit a 34-year-old man who was crossing the street at the time.

He was rushed to hospital with critical injuries, while she remained at the scene. Later that day, the man was pronounced dead.

The driver is due to appear in court in late March.
