Woman in Anchorage Kicked in Head by Moose

A woman was reported to be recovering after she was kicked in the head by a moose while out walking her dog in Anchorage on February 16.

Kate Timmons recorded this shocking footage as she and her husband drove past Tracy Hansen and noticed a moose was following her along Old Seward Highway. In the video, Timmons can be heard shouting “Watch out!” as the moose nears Hansen, before it rears up and kicks her, knocking her to the ground.

Timmons told Storyful that she had taken her phone out to play a song for her daughter when her husband told her to roll down her window because it looked like the moose was following someone

“We slowed down to not agitate the moose, but as we realized this moose was already in full pursuit of the victim, we decided to speed up, honk and shout to alert her,” Timmons said.

Timmons, a respiratory therapist who has worked in critical care for years, said that she instinctively ran out of the truck as she knew the situation could be life threatening. She said Hansen’s gloves were saturated with blood from a head injury.

“Not knowing how critical the internal damage was, we had the medics in route within minutes. No one would have seen her behind snowbank otherwise,” she said.

Hansen, who was left with bruising and had to have staples to her head, told Alaska’s KTUU that she and her dog Gunner were already back taking their usual walks.

“The moose won’t stop that,” she said. Credit: Kate Timmons via Storyful
