Witnesses alleged to police that Flor Ontiveros attempted to drown her 4-year-old daughter and 6-year-old nephew, according to a police report
An Oklahoma woman is in police custody after she allegedly tried to drown her daughter and her nephew at a public pool earlier this summer, police allege.
Flor Ontiveros, 34, was accused of “smiling” and ignoring onlookers who pleaded with her to stop holding the two children underwater, according to an Oklahoma City Police Department incident report made on June 27.
Ontiveros has now been charged with two counts of child abuse, local KFOR and KOKH reported over the weekend. The outlets reported that Ontiveros’ daughter is 4 years old and her nephew is 6 years old.
A spokesperson with the Oklahoma City Detention Center confirmed to PEOPLE on Monday morning that Ontiveros remains in custody on a $250,000 bond. It's not immediately clear if she has retained an attorney or entered pleas.

According to the incident report, Ontiveros was accompanying her daughter and her nephew to the Will Rogers Aquatic Center that afternoon when others allegedly witnessed her holding the children underwater for an extended period of time.
A witness told officers that Ontiveros was allegedly seen holding her nephew’s “entire body and head underneath the water” and said “that multiple people were yelling at her” to stop.
The incident report says when the boy was finally pulled from the water, “he was unconscious and not breathing.”
One witness told police Ontiveros allegedly “did not seem concerned” for the kids “while the lifeguards performed CPR on them” and said the woman “was smiling during the incident.”
Both children were taken to the hospital after the incident and recovered, according to KFOR.
