Carol Flaz-Burgos was last seen on Aug. 31, and her neighbor Cristian Montero is set to be arraigned on a murder charge, per authorities
Authorities in Massachusetts are investigating the killing of a mother of two after video surveillance showed her entering her alleged killer's home, never to be seen alive again.
Carol Flaz-Burgos, 37, was found dead in Haverhill, Mass., on Sep. 3, days after she disappeared from near her residence in nearby Lawrence, Essex County authorities announced last week.
Her neighbor Cristian Montero, 35, was arrested in connection with her death and initially charged with witness intimidation, the Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker said in a Sep. 4 press release.
On Tuesday, Sep. 10, the D.A.’s office confirmed to PEOPLE that Montero is now set to be arraigned on a murder charge.
Authorities said in their statement that Flaz-Burgos was reported missing on Aug. 31. Her 9-year-old daughter called the victim's mother and said she was scared because she hadn't seen her mom in hours, Linette Perez of Lawrence PD, told CBS News.
Assistant District Attorney Jessica Fleet said in court that surveillance footage captures Flaz-Burgos entering Montero's home that morning, making the "sign of the cross" before going in, Boston 25 News, CBS News and WHDH report.
Flaz-Burgos was never seen leaving his apartment, authorities said, per NECN and Boston 25 News.
Montero was then seen leaving the apartment with a cart that appeared to be filled with clothes, authorities said, per NECN, Boston 25 News and The Boston Globe.
Meanwhile, Flaz-Burgos’ cellphone data showed the device was moving away from that location at the same time Montero was allegedly seen leaving the apartment, per Assistant District Attorney Jessica Fleet said, NECN and The Boston Globe reported.

Her phone was seen moving in the direction of Haverhill, where her body would later be found, Fleet said, according to NECN, Boston 25 News and The Boston Globe.
Montero allegedly told investigators that he was in Lawrence during the time of Flaz-Burgos' disappearance, but his cellphone records allegedly indicate he was in Haverhill, per prosecutors, NECN and Boston 25 News reported.
Flaz-Burgos, a mother of two, was remembered at a vigil attended by many last week, according to the The Gloucester Daily Times and CBS News.
Well-wishers were seen singing in her honor, placing flowers and holding placards demanding justice for her, video by the The Gloucester Daily Times shows.
Montero has pleaded not guilty to the initial charge, per court records cited by The Boston Globe, NECN, Boston 25 News.
He was set to be arraigned on his murder charge on Wednesday, Sep. 11, per the Essex County DA’s office.
